SUMMARY:Chapter Meeting: Program: "Veva Stansell\, Extraordinary Botanist from Pistol River" by Lee Webb
DESCRIPTION:Veva Stansell was widely recognized as a top-notch field botanist. She worked for many years as a Botanist for the U.S. Forest Service’s Gold Beach Ranger District and devoted many volunteer hours in the study of our area’s rare plants. She especially loved the plants inhabiting our region’s unique serpentine soils. She even discovered a plant new to science in the Red Flat area near Gold Beach (Erigeron stanselliae — Stansell’s fleabane). We’ll explore Veva’s life history\, and the botanical field journeys of this remarkable woman. \nOur meetings are open to the public. Please join us for social time from 6:00-6:30 p.m. to talk birds and catch-up with friends new and old. A brief chapter meeting follows social time and the program will begin around 6:45 p.m. Door prizes are awarded and refreshments are served. \n  \n \nErigeron stanselliae

DESCRIPTION:September marks the return of 3rd Tuesday bird watching walks in Reinhart Volunteer Park in Grants Pass . The walks are lead by Fran Taylor\, one of our long-time Siskiyou Audubon Society members. \nWe meet at 8:30 a.m. at the parking lot for the Agnew-Lyttle baseball field\, the first parking lot on the right as you enter the park. Dress for the weather and possibly wet grounds (from the sprinklers\, if not the rain). Bring binoculars if you have them\, if not\, we have a spare pair to loan. If you are a photographer\, bring a camera. You many want to bring water and a snack. \nAt the last bird walk in June\, 42 species of birds were identified!
