SUMMARY:Chapter Meeting - Program: "Great Gray Owls - What They Are & How to Find Them" by Harry Fuller
DESCRIPTION:Great Gray Owls are one of the most mysterious and sought-after bird residents of California\, Oregon and Washington. It is the tallest owl in North America\, and notoriously approachable by humans\, but finding it intentionally isn’t easy due to its nocturnal habits\, excellent camouflage and silent flight. \nHarry Fuller is the author of four natural history books. Besides his illustrated book on Great Gray Owls\, he has authored Freeway Birding\, San Francisco to Seattle\, and San Francisco’s Natural History — Sand Dune to Streetcars. His most recent book is Birding Harney County. It is the largest county in Oregon and includes Malheur NWR\, Alvord Desert and Steens Mountain. \nHarry is pictured here next to the late\, great Shadow\, who lived at Lindsay Museum in Walnut Creek\, CA. Shadow was a fine ornithology instructor in California class rooms.

SUMMARY:Siskiyou Audubon Field Trip to Golden - Coyote Wetlands
DESCRIPTION:Join Siskiyou Audubon Society leaders in a visit to the Golden-Coyote Wetlands! We will meet at 10:00 am at the ghost town of Golden and walk down the trail into the wetlands below. Along the way\, we will look for birds and other wildlife as we assess the habitat. \nTwenty-some years ago\, SAS joined with Lichen Cooperative and other Wolf Creek friends to reclaim wetlands destroyed by 1880s gold miners. A native creek was recovered and native plants restored. Interest in the area has waned in recent years\, however\, the wetlands belong to the State of Oregon Parks. Its Ranger also oversees the Wolf Creek Inn\, on the west side of highway I-5. For more information about Golden visit the State of Oregon Parks. \nDirections: Take I-5 north to Wolf Creek exit 76. At the bottom of the off-ramp\, turn RIGHT and drive 3.6 miles up Coyote Creek Road to the ghost town of Golden.

SUMMARY:Chapter Meeting - Program: "Hummingbirds of Belize and Costa Rica" by John Taylor
DESCRIPTION:There are over 240 living species of hummingbirds\, and new ones are still being discovered. Hummingbirds can be found in the western hemisphere only\, from southern Alaska to Tierra Del Fuego and from below sea level deserts to steamy tropical forests up to 16\,000 feet in the Andes of South America. \nJohn and Joy Taylor visited Belize and Costa rica many years ago and expert guide Manuel Rodriguez was with them the whole time. Each evening\, they would go to the hotel lobby and carefully go over their notes. The hummingbirds you will see tonight are only the that Joy and John saw and were confirmed by their guide.

SUMMARY:Nest Box Building Day!
DESCRIPTION:Our big Nest Box Building Day will once again be at Hidden Valley High School wood shop at 651 Murphy Creek Road. Our goal this year is to build 150-200 nest boxes and make the rest of the wood into kits. Remember\, each person who works may take home a free nest box! \nBring your own: hammer\, lunch\, drink and enthusiasm! We will have all the other tools and materials on hand. Our set-up crew will have the workshop ready for folks to start building at 9:30am. We’ll take a break for lunch\, then resume work until we meet our quota or use up all the wood. \nCheck for updates by emailing sisqaudubon@gmail.com \n
