Chapter Meeting: Program: “Veva Stansell, Extraordinary Botanist from Pistol River” by Lee Webb

Veva Stansell was widely recognized as a top-notch field botanist. She worked for many years as a Botanist for the U.S. Forest Service’s Gold Beach Ranger District and devoted many volunteer hours in the study of our area’s rare plants. She especially loved the plants inhabiting our region’s unique serpentine soils. She even discovered a plant new to science in the Red Flat area near Gold Beach (Erigeron stanselliae — Stansell’s fleabane). We’ll explore Veva’s life history, and the botanical field journeys of this remarkable woman.
Our meetings are open to the public. Please join us for social time from 6:00-6:30 p.m. to talk birds and catch-up with friends new and old. A brief chapter meeting follows social time and the program will begin around 6:45 p.m. Door prizes are awarded and refreshments are served.
