Birding Events - 2016

Birds and Brews at Siskiyou Field Institute - May 28

Some of our Audubon nest box builders spent a few hours with children at the Birds and Brews event at Siskiyou Field Institute on Saturday morning, leading an early bird walk and building 18 nest boxes.

Because of a SAS donation to cover their expenses, Wildlife Images was able to bring three raptors: A Turkey Vulture, a Peregrine Falcon, and a Red-tailed Hawk. The hawk got rowdy on the perch/stand, and was put back in its crate, but the Turkey Vulture & Peregrine Falcon were on display for a couple/three hours. Beautiful birds! The Turkey Vulture was all bright red & iridescent-feathered & just looked like a sweet girl. Very mellow, too, while the falcon was stressed out. Interesting & beautiful birds, children; good music & food; the weather could not have been more beautiful! Birds – 23 species total for the day. Best birds were – Say’s Phoebe & Lazuli Bunting (males singing, both species.)

Siskiyou Field Institute Bird Walk - May 14

Siskiyou Audubon Society members Alan Ome, Lee Webb and Phil Hicks led bird walks with fifth graders for an hour. They found 12 to 15 bird species for each group, and each group got a short introduction to birding.
